HEBRIDEAN Seaweed Company has won the prestigious Marine Business Award at The Crown Estate Business Awards 2010.

The judges Dinah Nicols and Rob Hastings commented: "The Hebridean Seaweed Company is this year's clear winner of the Marine Business Award.

In just 4 years the company has grown to be the country's largest industrial seaweed processor.

It is a true model of sustainability, harvesting a renewable resource in an environmentally responsible way and creating much needed year round jobs on the Isle of Lewis.

International Scientific Conference on Probiotics and Prebiotics - IPC2010, Kosice, Slovakia (15 - 17 June)

The International Probiotic Conference 2010 will be held during 15th - 17th June 2010, in the university city of Kosice, Slovakia.  IPC2010 is the oncoming event of the successful conference series focusing on probiotics in 2000, 2004, and 2008.  The scientific programme will focus on current advances in the research, production and use of probiotics and prebiotics with particular focus on their role in maintaining health and preventing diseases.

XX International Seaweed Symposium, Mexico (22 - 26 February, 2010)

The International Seaweed Symposium (ISS) is held every three years under the auspices of the International Seaweed Association (ISA).  It is the foremost international meeting on seaweed research and utilization.  Scientific research plays a fundamental role in developing seaweed products and industries.  The ISS provides a forum for scientists, technologists, industry and resource managers to present their latest research results and develop new synergies.

USA/Ireland Functional Food Conference 2010 (9 - 11 March)

Functional foods are identified as one of the central pillars for the future development of the food industry internationally. In a recent foresight exercise undertaken by Teagasc, research in functional foods is seen as a priority to support the ambitions of Irish industry to compete in this market segment.
